Therapy Intensives: A Faster Path to Change

We’re excited to introduce a new way of working together: therapy intensives. While traditional weekly counselling can be effective, many people find it hard to fit into their schedules—or frustrating when sessions end just as the real work is beginning. Intensives are designed differently. Instead of spreading your healing out over months, you’ll have the space for deep, focused work in a single day (or over a few days), creating momentum and progress that lasts.

In this post, I’ll walk you through what therapy intensives are, why they work so well, and whether they might be the right next step for you.

So, what makes an intensive different from a regular counselling session—and why do so many people choose this approach when they need real progress now?

Why Choose an Intensive Session?

Instead of stretching the work out over months in 1-hour blocks, an intensive gives you the space to go deeper, faster. In just one day, you can accomplish the kind of progress that might otherwise take weeks or even months.

The benefits of intensives:

  • Momentum & focus – No stopping and starting every two weeks. We keep the flow going so insights build on each other.

  • Less juggling – Taking one day off work (or arranging childcare once) is often easier than managing ongoing weekly appointments.

  • Deeper healing – With more time, we’re not rushing. We can move past surface-level insights and do the real work of clearing blocks, rather than just identifying them.

  • Dedicated space for your relationship – Instead of an hour squeezed between other commitments, you and your partner get a full day to focus on each other.

  • ADHD-friendly – Many people with ADHD find intensives helpful because they can hyperfocus and stay in the zone without interruptions.

The difference isn’t just about time. Therapy intensives change the pace and depth of counselling, making it possible to move past surface-level insights and into true transformation.

Why Intensives Work So Well

Intensives are trending and cutting-edge because they are transformative. Many therapists are moving toward this model because people are seeing dramatic improvements and real progress toward their goals.

Think about it—most 1-hour sessions look something like this:

  • 10 minutes to reconnect and catch up

  • 30 minutes for the “deep work”

  • 10–15 minutes to wrap up and transition back to daily life

That leaves very little time for true transformation. With an intensive, we skip the constant starting and stopping and dive straight into 3-4 hours of uninterrupted deep work. That’s 6-8 times more focused time than a regular session—and the momentum it creates is powerful.

It’s also worth noting: the traditional 50-minute session model wasn’t designed with your healing in mind—it was created by insurance companies. Imagine if you needed heart surgery and the surgeon said, “We’ve reached our one-hour limit, I’ll stitch you up and we’ll continue next week.” You wouldn’t want that. Once you’re in it, you want to move through to the other side. Intensives allow us to do exactly that.

Of course, intensives require more upfront commitment, but many people discover they’re ultimately a smarter investment of both time and money—especially compared to months (or even years) of weekly sessions.

A Smarter Investment

Intensives do require a larger upfront investment, but they’re ultimately a better use of time and money. Instead of months (or years) of weekly sessions, you’re able to experience meaningful progress in a shorter period of time. You don’t have to wait weeks between steps forward—you can move through the process now.

Intensives are ideal for people who are ready for change and want to see results more quickly. They offer a rare opportunity: a full, uninterrupted day devoted entirely to your healing and your relationship.

An intensive is not just more therapy—it’s a different kind of therapy. Slowed down, focused, and transformative.

Curious what the process looks like? Here’s a step-by-step guide to how intensives unfold—from the first consultation to your full-day session. How It Works

Step 1: Book a brief, complimentary consult to discuss your main concerns and check out the fit.

Step 2: Book an 80 minute session to discuss goals in greater detail. The fee for this is $285.

Step 3: Decide on how many successive days you’d like to book.
One, two or three day options are available.

Note: One individual session with each partner is included as part of the package. The rest of the sessions are with both people.

Step 4: Book the days and pay your deposit (50% of the total fee).

Step 5: Come for the sessions and experience real progress and healing.

Intensives aren’t one-size-fits-all. They can be tailored to support individuals ready for a breakthrough in their personal healing, or couples who want to reconnect, repair, and grow. If you’re looking for couples counselling intensives in Vancouver, this approach can provide the focused time you need to rebuild your relationship.

  • You often feel like therapy ends “just as we’re getting to the good stuff.”

  • You want uninterrupted time to go deeper and actually move through blocks rather than just identify them.

  • You prefer focused, immersive work (especially helpful if you have ADHD and can hyperfocus once you’re in the zone).

  • You’re seeking a bigger shift or breakthrough in your healing or your relationship.

Whether you’re seeking clarity in your personal healing or wanting to strengthen your relationship, a therapy intensive can be a powerful way to move forward.
